New Super Mario Bros. 2 Trailer #2

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS just received a new trailer which brings to the table a lot of new information that fans hadn’t seen yet.

Golden Coin Shower…. riiiiiight…

First off we see the new “Launch into Action” cannon devices that seem to propel Mario at high speed for who knows what reason. Next up we see the birth of the “EHM!” Golden Coin Shower? This is just wrong on so many levels. It seems that gold coins will rain down in various directions probably due to the fact that you have entered some sort of special stage or bonus room. It seems that they will also jump from pipes as well almost like a water fountain music display.

Honey, I shrunk the Mario.

The “Tiny Mushroom” makes a comeback with all it’s quirky physics and crazy antics still intact from the first NSMB on DS.

You can’t have the Tiny Mushroom without the “Mega Mushroom” now can you? Nintendo seemed to think not either, so it too has made a glorious return. Time to stomp on everything as a mega sized Mario and get your revenge on just about everything in your way.

Larger than Life Mario is a scary thing.

The fact that a Gold Ring can turn all of the onscreen enemies into pure money farms is fantastic. From the trail left behind of a high speed Bullet Bill to the streak in the air from a Hammer Brothers’…well… hammer, just about everything is trying to help you reach that goal of collecting 1,000,000 Gold Coins.

The last big reveal is one that some long time fans of the series absolutely hate, and that is the existence of the “Assist Block”. Several recent Mario games including Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land have featured said block to offer players a chance to complete a difficult level that they are stuck on. Simply (or not) die five times on a single level and the magic Assist Block will appear on your next play of that level. This time it brings the forth the power of the Golden Raccoon Leaf into play which makes Mario (or Luigi) invincible for the duration of the stage and allows them to fly as if using the regular Raccoon Leaf.

Soooo… shiny….

With all these new additions the wait for New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS has gotten even more unbearable. Luckily we only have to wait just over a month from now to get it in our greedy little Mario grubbing hands. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be out on Auguest 19th in North America, you can preorder your copy from the usual suspects.
