So our friends over at Wizards of the Coast were nice enough to send us a review copy of their new trading card game, Kaijudo – Rise of the Duel Masters. I’ve spent the last 24 hours on the website and playing with friends to try to get them in the loop and learn the game.
When I first received the box I was excited to play because the last TCG that got my attention was Shadow Era for the iOS, Android and Browser. So a new comer is defiantly refreshing. When I say new, I mean like ‘just released this week’ new. The first dual deck box is called “Tatsurion vs. Razorkinder.”

Kaijudo is a mix between what I would like to call Yu-Gi-Oh and magic. It pulls both aspects of those popular games with its own little twist. But the rounds that we played with our review decks were just as exhilarating as previous card games. After playing, my colleges were disappointed to know that the decks we got were the only ones to be released so far. They started to look up the site and release dates for booster packs and new decks. Needless to say, I think I may have gotten a few of them hooked.

The playing field is almost mimicking the others, but very simplistic. I really like how fast some of the games could go just because that kind of makes it a real ideal game for tourneys and events. No real numbers to calculate, just comparing greater and less than numbers to determine winners and outcomes. One of the real big game changers are the shield break spells that get cast for free. Both decks that we played with had them, so it was really fair in that aspect. But, I have to admit, the 2 decks really do have different play styles. Water being more solid and tricky, while fire being more damage and rush down. The same goes with the other elements.

If you would like to see more on the cards or even make an account and play online, head over to Kaijudo.com. Plenty to see and do there. Also, don’t forget to catch the episodes of the TV show! They’re already up to episode 5 in the first season. Try it all out, and let us know what you think!!
