Oh yes Mass Effect fans, that title is correct. After months of waiting, today Bioware have finally announced the release date for Mass Effect 3′s extended cut.
On the 26th June for all consoles (except PS3 users in Europe who unfortunately have to wait until the 4th July), we will be able to download the new content on Origin, Xbox Live and Playstation Network. For free.
So what does the extended cut give us? Well the 1.98 GB add on gives us answers. As the about page on the Bioware website states, the extended cut “expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for”.
To be more specific, it gives us a better idea on what the future holds for Mass Effect. The ending hasn’t been changed, but further details have been added to the trilogy’s conclusion. And as the decisions we made on our journey with Commander Shepard shaped the original ending, these choices also affect the way we see this new content. This means that multiple playthroughts are required to fully explore all the new possibilities that the extended cut brings.
How do you play the extended cut? Once you’ve downloaded it, all you need to do is load up a save before *SPOILERS* the final attack on the Cerberus base. Then just play the rest of the game out and you’ll experience the extended ending. Couldn’t be easier.
Here’s a screenshot to get you in the mood.
Bioware have clearly worked hard to appease those upset by the ending to Mass Effect 3. It may set a dangerous precedent between gamers and developers but we, for one, are excited to see the changes they’ve made.
But what about you? Are you ready to explore the ending once again? Or were you satisified in the first place? Let us know with a comment below.
